Part n Parcel vs ClickShip: Free Software, Whose Rates?

Quick answer: ClickShip and Freightcom are the same company. ClickShip is Freightcom’s free shipping app for online stores, and it makes its money on the labels it sells you. Part n Parcel opens carrier accounts in your business’s name at enterprise rates. You print labels on them in shipping software, most often ShipStation. On ClickShip, ClickShip sets the label price. On your own accounts, the price is in your carrier agreement.

We make money when you move your shipping to accounts we manage. Our markup is shown to you before you commit. Check our numbers the way you would check anyone’s.

How does ClickShip make money if the software is free?

On the labels. ClickShip’s Standard plan is $0 a month. You pay for each label and each address check, and extra features are paid add-ons from $9.99 a month. ClickShip calls itself “a product of Freightcom.”

That means the rate is the product.

Can you use your own carrier accounts on ClickShip?

Only Canada Post, going by ClickShip’s pricing page. It offers “Add Your Own Canada Post Account” for $30 CAD a month. The page lists no own-account option for UPS, FedEx, Purolator or Canpar.

The Bring-Your-Own-Account Test: before you compare features, ask two questions. Is the carrier account in your business’s name, so the carrier knows who you are? And who sets the price on every label you print?

On ClickShip, you pass that test for one carrier. For the carriers most of our merchants use on heavier and faster parcels, the price on your screen is ClickShip’s.

Whose customer are you on ClickShip?

ClickShip’s. A platform can print your business name on the label and still keep the account. When you buy ClickShip’s own labels, you are ClickShip’s customer. If a parcel goes missing or a charge looks wrong, the carrier deals with ClickShip and may not know who you are. On an account in your business’s name, you are on the carrier’s books, and we take the problem to the carrier for you.

A company whose product is your rate will price your rate to its business. I negotiate rates with carriers all the time. In my experience, a carrier will not set up a platform to undercut its own sales team, so it is careful about the rates it lets any platform sell online. On its own account, your business can often earn a lower rate.

You cannot see what other stores pay. Carriers do not publish what they charge each business, and a platform’s price is the one it chose for you today. On an account in your name, your rates are in your carrier agreement and you see every line. We price your parcels on the rates the collective volume of 240+ Canadian brands earns, and show you the gap line by line.

What ClickShip customers say when it goes wrong: one merchant wrote on the Shopify App Store in August 2026 that “there is no ownership of any claim submitted” (Shopify App Store). A claim is your request to be paid back for a lost or damaged parcel. Another, naming Freightcom and ClickShip in September 2026, wrote that you “can prepay around $40 for shipping and duty, then get hit with another $200–$300 CAD in charges weeks later” (Trustpilot).

What did a merchant who left ClickShip find?

One merchant came to us because holiday fees kept showing up on their UPS labels through ClickShip. On accounts in their own name, they can see which carrier charges a fee, and they can move that route to the carrier with the lower fee.

Is free shipping software worth it?

Free software is paid for in the label. ClickShip charges $0 a month and earns on every label you buy, so its price sits inside your shipping cost. Paid software such as ShipStation charges a monthly fee and lets you print on accounts in your own name.

Judge that fee on what the software does for you, not against the label. Good shipping software:

  1. Sets you up to scale, so more orders do not mean more hands.
  2. Stays reliable on your busiest days.
  3. Is easy for your team to learn and use.
  4. Saves time with rules that pick the right carrier for each parcel.
  5. Gives your customers better outcomes: the right carrier for each route and tracking they can follow.

The label is where your shipping money goes. We looked at 22,353 parcels shipped within Canada by 11 merchants from January to May 2026. The median (middle) parcel cost $15.84 on what the merchant paid and $11.03 on a Part n Parcel managed account, 30.4% less, taxes and duties excluded (benchmarks). At 10 parcels a shipping day over 250 shipping days, $4.81 a parcel is $12,025 a year. At 100, it is $120,250. Your gap depends on your parcels.

Do this now: add up last month’s ClickShip label charges and divide by the number of labels. That one number, your real cost per parcel, is where any comparison should start.

Want this number for your own parcels? Send one ClickShip invoice and your savings report comes back line by line. Free, no call.

Who controls your carrier mix on ClickShip?

ClickShip does, because it decides which carriers appear and at what price. Your carrier mix is which carriers you use, and on which lanes. A lane is a route, such as Toronto to Calgary. On your own accounts, you decide which carrier runs each lane.

That matters most when a carrier slips. Carriers get better and worse, most of all at peak season and with smaller carriers. When Canada Post stopped work from November 15 to December 17, 2024, merchants with one carrier had nowhere to send parcels. On your own accounts, you can move a lane by changing one automation rule and protect your customer’s delivery.

How do you avoid costly mistakes when you switch?

We know the carriers and the software, so we help you avoid costly mistakes. We have seen merchants test a new carrier on their own. Their customer service issues skyrocketed. Their accountant had far more billing questions. Their own time went to backtracking. We set it up right so you avoid that.

As I tell every merchant we set up, our approach is to build you to scale and avoid dropping off any packages. Driving parcels to a depot is the easiest job in your business to delete.

When should you stay on ClickShip?

Stay while you are still finding product-market fit, the stage where you are proving people want what you sell. Your early customers buy on the value of your product, and we do not want to distract you from that. Once shipping is a real cost, test us.

How do you test it without leaving ClickShip?

Send one recent ClickShip invoice or a label export. You are probably thinking a switch means learning new software in your busy season, for a saving you have not seen yet. That is why we price your actual parcels before you change anything, with insurance and signatures on both sides. If the gap is small, stay on ClickShip, and it cost you one email.

How it works:

  1. Send one ClickShip invoice. Not sure which file? Let ChatGPT or Claude find it.
  2. Your savings report comes back line by line: every parcel priced on accounts in your name.
  3. If the number is worth it, we set up the accounts. If it is not, you stay where you are.

Free. No call. If we cannot meaningfully improve your rates, we will tell you.

Frequently asked questions

If ClickShip is free, how can my own account cost less?

ClickShip makes its money on every label it sells you. On an account in your business’s name, your rates are in your carrier agreement, built on the collective volume of 240+ Canadian brands. In our benchmark of 22,353 parcels, the median parcel cost 30.4% less on a Part n Parcel managed account. One ClickShip invoice shows your own number.

Can I put my own UPS or FedEx account into ClickShip?

Not according to ClickShip’s pricing page, which shows only a Canada Post own-account option, at $30 CAD a month. Accounts in your name with UPS, FedEx, Purolator or Canpar print in software that takes your own accounts, such as ShipStation. We set that up for you.

Can I test Part n Parcel without leaving ClickShip?

Yes. Send one ClickShip invoice or a label export. You keep shipping on ClickShip while we price your parcels. You move labels only if the number is worth it, and if it is not, we will say so.

Is ClickShip the same company as Freightcom?

Yes. ClickShip calls itself “a product of Freightcom.” You can send an invoice from either one for your savings report. See Part n Parcel vs Freightcom.

Will my store change, and how long does setup take?

Your store stays the same. Labels print on your accounts in shipping software such as ShipStation, which connects to Shopify and most other online stores. We do the setup. One Ottawa apparel and wholesale brand moved from Freightcom, the company behind ClickShip, to accounts in its own name in 14 days (case study).

Whose name is on the carrier account?

Your business’s. The carrier knows who you are, your rates are in your carrier agreement, and when something goes wrong we take it to the carrier for you.
